El día 29 de septiembre se reunió en la sede del organismo el grupo de trabajo para el seguimiento de las estadísticas del COI. A la vista de los datos aportados por los países, la campaña 2016/17, aunque todavía con datos provisionales alcanzó una producción mundial de 2 538 000t que supone una disminución del -20%, -631.500 toneladas respecto a la campaña anterior, un consumo alrededor de 2 740 000t, (-9%), las importaciones y exportaciones totalizan 799 000t y 798 500t respectivamente
