Parámetro diferencial que mide la energía potencial que posee el agua presente en el suelo, tomando como valor de referencia el del agua libre. Este parámetro se utiliza para cuantificar la cantidad de trabajo que las plantas deben emplear para la absorción del agua por las raíces, y es de fundamental importancia para calcular las necesidades de riego. Convencionalmente se lo designa con la letra griega “psi”.
