A celebratory mood reigned at the IOC headquarters in Madrid at this year’s Mario Solinas 2012 award ceremony held on 22 June. Repeating last year’s experience, the Executive Secretariat invited members of the diplomatic corps and journalists from the trade press to enjoy an introduction to the ins and outs of tasting extra virgin olive oils and to be the first to savour the winning oils after their selection by the international panel of judges convened by the IOC.
After the tasting session, the award ceremony took place, presided by the Ambassador of Tunisia to Spain. Tunisia holds the vice-chair of the IOC for the current 2011/12 crop year. The award winning producers and packers then joined the diplomats and guests from the olive oil world, who turned out in large numbers, for a cocktail reception.
