The jury met in Uruguay to select the winning oils of the 1st edition of the IOC’s prestigious competition dedicated to the quality of extra virgin olive oils from the Southern Hemisphere
This year, for the first time, the International Olive Council (IOC) has launched a special edition to reward the best extra virgin olive oils (EVOOs) from the Southern Hemisphere. The international jury responsible for selecting the winning oils met on 11 and 12 September 2024 in the Uruguayan capital.
Twenty-six EVOOs produced in the Southern Hemisphere took part in the competition’s launching edition.
The international jury met at the Sensory Evaluation Laboratory of the School of Chemistry, Universidad de la República (UdelaR), in Montevideo, Uruguay. The members of the jury used the IOC-Panel platform designed by the Fundación del Olivar during their tasting sessions. The list of winners will be announced shortly on the IOC’s website. The awards ceremony will take place on 7 November 2024 in Uruguay.
Since the 2000/01 crop season, the IOC’s Mario Solinas Quality Awards has been rewarding EVOOs with the highest quality organoleptic characteristics. Its name is a tribute to Italian professor Mario Solinas, one of the greatest advocates of the sensory analysis of virgin olive oils.
