Jordan to host the 58th meeting of the Advisory Committee

The Advisory Committee for Olive Oil and Table Olives of the International Olive Council (IOC), which met in Amman four years ago, is set to return to the Jordanian capital next month. This 58th meeting will take place on 7 June, the day before the 115th session of the Council of Members.

The Committee will be chaired by Ali Haj Mbarek, and IOC Executive DirectorAbdellatif Ghedira will coordinate the proceedings.   The Jordanian Minister of Agriculture, H.E. Mr Khaled Hanifet, the current Chair of the IOC, will deliver the institutional greetings on behalf of the intergovernmental organisation.

Once the Committee adopts the agenda and approves the minutes of the previous meeting, its work will focus on current issues in the world olive sector. The representatives will also discuss the activities carried out by the Executive Secretariat’s operational units in the fields of standardisation and research, economics and promotion, and technology, environment and training, as well as on the work of the observatory and information systems.

The ensuing debate is likely to be marked by requests for information and to incorporate new representatives from the global olive sector. Many delegates from countries and intergovernmental organisations from around the world will participate in the meeting as observers. Among them, interventions are expected from Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Chile, China, India, Iraq, Japan, Mauritania, Mexico, Pakistan, Peru, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Sudan, the United States, the League of Arab States, the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN and the Arab Organisation for Agricultural Development.

Chair Ali Haj Mbarek and Executive Director Abdellatif Ghedira will present the conclusions of the meeting at the end of the day. More information will be available a few days before the event, which will be held both in person and virtually.
