On Monday 25 April, Executive Director Abdellatif Ghedira welcomed H.E. Mr Adel Mustafa Kamil Alkurdi, the Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Spain, to IOC headquarters in Madrid.
Discussions focused on the olive sector in Iraq and its prospects for development. The Executive Director informed his guest about the new countries that have joined the Organisation and asked about Iraq’s readiness to resume its place in the olive family.
Fortunately, the Iraqi Ambassador was the bearer of good news. His government, in particular the Ministry of Agriculture, has given the green light for his country to return to the IOC. The Ambassador asked for information on the conditions of membership and the administrative steps to be taken.
The Executive Director congratulated his guest on this welcome initiative and expressed his gratitude for the steps taken to convince his country to resume its place in the Organisation. At the end of the meeting, Mr Ghedira gave the Ambassador the relevant documents on the conditions of membership and the benefits that Members can draw from it in terms of assistance and expertise.
