Advanced course on olive growing and climate change

The International Olive Council (IOC) and the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Zaragoza (IAMZ) have planned to organise an advanced course on Olive Growing and Climate Change from 27 September to 1 October 2021. Given the pandemic, the institutions considered that for safety reasons the course should be held online, maintaining as much interaction between lecturers and participants as possible.

This course aims to raise awareness of the extra challenges inflicted on olive growing by climate change and how to select the appropriate varieties. It will give guidance on the usefulness and use of recently developed models and tools to better understand the impact of climate change and forecast its consequences. Lastly, it will provide an integrated overview of the strategies that must be considered to mitigate climate change and adapt to it.

The course is aimed at public and private planners and decision makers, agronomists, environmentalists, technical advisors and experts from R&D institutions involved in the management of the environmental effects of climate change on olive growing. All participants must have a university degree.

Cours supérieur sur l’oléiculture et le changement climatique

Visioconférence, 27 septembre-1er octobre 2021

Le Conseil oléicole international (COI) et l’Institut agronomique méditerranéen de Saragosse (IAMZ) ont prévu d’organiser un cours supérieur sur l’oléiculture et le changement climatique du 27 septembre au 1er octobre 2021. Compte tenu de la situation sanitaire actuelle et pour des raisons de sécurité, les institutions ont estimé préférable d’organiser ce cours en distanciel, en maintenant la meilleure interaction possible entre les conférenciers et les participants.

Ce cours vise à sensibiliser les participants aux défis supplémentaires causés par le changement climatique sur l’oléiculture et à la méthode de sélection des variétés appropriées. Il donnera des conseils sur l’utilité et l’utilisation des modèles et outils récemment développés pour mieux comprendre l’impact du changement climatique et prévoir ses conséquences. Enfin, il fournira un aperçu global des stratégies à envisager pour lutter contre le changement climatique et s’y adapter.

Le cours s’adresse aux planificateurs et décideurs publics et privés, aux agronomes, aux spécialistes de l’environnement, aux conseillers techniques et aux experts des institutions de R&D impliqués dans la gestion des effets environnementaux du changement climatique sur l’oléiculture. Tous les participants doivent être titulaires d’un diplôme universitaire.
