Background
The IOC, in collaboration with the Provincial Council of Córdoba — a traditional olive-growing region — and at the invitation of the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Spain — a country for which olive cultivation is deeply embedded in its identity — has convened a ministerial meeting on 20 November 2025 in Córdoba, Spain.
In the face of mounting global challenges, the Córdoba Meeting brings together multiple ministers and their representatives to emphasise the shared commitment of IOC member and observer countries in support of the olive sector as a pillar of sustainable agriculture, food security, climate resilience and rural development. It recognises the olive tree not only for its agronomic and economic value, but also as a symbol of peace, cultural heritage and biodiversity. The encounter highlights the sector’s role in promoting healthy diets, preserving ecosystems and generating employment, while calling for greater cooperation in research, innovation, trade harmonisation and environmental stewardship. It also emphasised the growing influence of chefs and the restaurant sector in shaping consumer awareness of olive oil quality and culinary innovation.
