The International Olive Council (IOC) and the Global Crop Diversity Trust (Crop Trust) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation on the conservation and sustainable use of olive genetic resources.
Through this partnership, both organisations will work to consolidate the IOC Network of Olive Germplasm Banks and develop a Global Olive Conservation Strategy, bringing together scientific, technical and policy expertise to support the long-term conservation of olive genetic diversity.
The MoU also provides for cooperation on mapping existing genetic resources, stakeholder engagement and the development of a financial framework to support the germplasm bank network.
This collaboration reinforces the IOC’s commitment to safeguarding olive genetic resources for future generations.
