The 111th session is officially live

The 111th session opened with a greeting from IOC Chair George Svanidze. After introducing the Chair, Executive Director Abdellatif Ghedira began the meeting of the Administrative and Financial Affairs Committee by giving the floor to Turkish Deputy Minister of Trade Sezai Uçarmak.

Madrid – Under somewhat surreal circumstances, the 111th session of the Council of Members has officially begun in Madrid. The first, and hopefully last, in the time of covid-19.

We expect to see over 100 connections from all over the world, including representatives from our member countries from Argentina to Iran, designated experts and important figures in the olive sector.

We also have one accredited observer with us this year – Uzbekistan, which will soon start the accession procedures for signing the International Agreement on Olive Oil and Table Olives 2015 at the UN.

The session will take place over two days, starting with the meeting of the Administrative and Financial Affairs Committee to discuss and approve pressing decisions.

The Council will be informed of all decisions to be taken on the first day. These decisions will then be discussed and adopted at the Plenary Session on 1 July.

 

En direct de la 111e session du Conseil des Membres du COI

Madrid –  Les travaux de la 111e session ont été ouverts par le discours du président, George Svanidze. Le Directeur exécutif du COI, Abdellatif Ghedira, a ouvert les travaux du Comité des affaires administratives et financières en donnant la parole au vice-ministre du Commerce du gouvernement turc, Sezai Ugarmak.

Dans les circonstances extraordinaires provoquées par le Covid-19, la session du Conseil des Membres se déroule actuellement en visioconférence.

Plus de 100 participants du monde entier se connecteront à cette occasion : représentants des pays membres de l’Organisation – de l’Argentine à l’Iran -, experts désignés et personnalités importantes du secteur oléicole, mais également un observateur accrédité, l’Ouzbékistan, qui compte initier les procédures d’adhésion en vue de la signature de l’Accord international de 2015 sur l’huile d’olive et les olives de table auprès des Nations Unies.

La session commence ce lundi 29 juin 2020 avec la réunion du Comité des affaires administratives et financières qui examinera et approuvera les décisions les plus urgentes.

Ces décisions seront ensuite soumises à l’adoption du Conseil des Membres lors de la séance plénière qui se tiendra le 1er juillet.

The IOC and the University of Navarra, through OHIS (the Olive Health Information System), a platform dedicated to research on the health properties of olive oil and table olives, publish a weekly or bi-weekly collection of scientific articles and summaries of research carried out in this field.
