The International Olive Council is deeply saddened by the passing of Carlo Mariani, a respected IOC expert in standardisation and research, who passed away on 8 September 2025.
A chemist by training and a passionate advocate for scientific rigour in the olive oil sector, Dr Mariani made invaluable contributions to the work of the IOC, particularly in the development of analytical methods and quality standards. His dedication, precision, and spirit of collaboration earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues around the world.
Mr Mariani played a central role in advancing the technical foundations that support international olive oil trade and consumer trust. His work will continue to guide the sector for years to come.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. His legacy will not be forgotten.
