IOC and UCO strengthen training

MADRID - CORDOBA / 18.12.2021

IOC AND UCO COLLABORATE TO TRAIN TECHNICIANS THROUGH NATIONAL ACTIVITIES PROPOSED BY MEMBER COUNTRIES In order to meet the demand from member countries for technology transfer and technical cooperation, the International Olive Council (IOC) is organizing different national activities proposed by the member countries.

Within this programme, the UCOLIVO group of the University of Cordoba trained three technicians between 13 and 16 December: Ehud Fast, agronomist of the Olive Department in Vulcani Institute Center of Israel; Yair Mani, future manager of the Isolation Repository of Israel; and Maximiliano Dini, official of the National Institute of Agricultural Research (I.N.I.A.) of Uruguay. Their training was dedicated to management of the facilities of a germplasm bank, propagation, conservation in field collections and protected facilities for the production of certified material, sanitation techniques and sanitary diagnosis and varietal identification through the use of molecular and morphological markers (SSRs). This course was adapted to the specific needs of each technician, providing them with fully directed learning.

The UCOLIVO team that attended the technicians was made up of the researchers Teresa García López, Diego Cabello Pozo and Professor Isabel Trujillo Navas. On behalf of the IOC, the Head of the Olive Oil Technology and Environment Department, Pablo Morello, was in charge of welcoming them and accompanying them during the first day.

With these activities, the IOC aims to meet the needs of the member countries by promoting technical cooperation and technology transfer, and strengthening links and collaboration between the IOC Germoplasm Banks network.

I.N.I.A.) d’Uruguay.
