Book launch: The international olive oil production sector: a descriptive study of the different producing countries

This month sees the IOC gearing up as the setting for the launch of the book The International Olive Oil Production Sector: a Descriptive Study of the Different Producing Countries.

Presiding over the event, to be held at the IOC headquarters on 21 September, will be IOC Executive Director Jean-Louis Barjol, who penned the preface, and co-authors Rafael Cárdenas, General Manager of the GEA Westfalia Separator Centre for Excellence in Olive Oil and Juan Vilar, PhD in Economics, tenured professor on sabbatical from the University of Jaén and Chief Executive and Managing Director of GEA Westfalia Separator Ibérica, SA.

Published by the GEA Westfalia Separator Ibérica Centre for Excellence in Olive Oil with the collaboration, involvement and commitment of the International Olive Council and other public and private-sector institutions such as IFEJA, FAECA, INFAOLIVA, the University of Jaén, NUTESCA, Caja Rural de Jaén and the Spanish regional newspaper Diario Jaén, the authors and contributing team of leading national and international researchers from universities across the five continents provide a meticulous diagnosis – the most comprehensive yet in the history of the industry – of the world’s forty olive oil producing countries and take an indepth look at subjects such as their productive assets, most significant aspects, potential, risks and types of crop production, all illustrated with photographs. The book also features a raft of specially designed strategies to stimulate the current state of play in the industry and to ensure its survival.

 

Due to kick off at 11.30, the launch is expected to last 50 minutes and will wrap up with a Q & A session. After the authors and prefacer meet with the media, a reception will be laid on for guests who will receive a complimentary signed copy of the book. Anyone interested in attending is quite welcome to do so.

The IOC and the University of Navarra, through OHIS (the Olive Health Information System), a platform dedicated to research on the health properties of olive oil and table olives, publish a weekly or bi-weekly collection of scientific articles and summaries of research carried out in this field.

These articles highlight the numerous health benefits of these products.
