Recognising extra virgin olive oil excellence from the Southern Hemisphere
The International Olive Council (IOC) has announced the winners of the 2025 Mario Solinas Quality Award for extra virgin olive oils from the Southern Hemisphere. This second edition of the competition, the most prestigious institutional recognition for olive oil quality worldwide, attracted 30 samples from five countries: Argentina (15), Uruguay (8), Brazil (4), Peru (2) and South Africa (1).
An international jury, composed of heads of IOC-recognised tasting panels, evaluated the oils on 9 and 10 September 2025 in San Juan, Argentina, according to their sensory profiles and selected the best in each category of fruitiness. The first winners are:
- Robust Green: La Agrícola SA – Mendoza, Argentina
- Medium Green: Fazenda Serra dos Tapes – Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil
- Delicate Green: Ernesto Singer – Montevideo, Uruguay
- Ripe: Agroliva – Buenos Aires, Argentina
Second prizes went to De Rustica Estate (South Africa) and Agroland SA (Uruguay). Among the finalists were producers and packers from Argentina, Uruguay and Brazil. Find out all the details of this year’s winners here.
The Mario Solinas Quality Awards, created in 2000/2001, aim to encourage producers, associations and packers to market extra virgin olive oils with superior organoleptic characteristics, while raising consumer awareness of quality olive oil. Following the successful launch in Uruguay in 2024, this year’s Southern Hemisphere edition was hosted in Argentina, further consolidating the IOC’s commitment to excellence and recognition of producers worldwide.
The date and location of the 2025 awards ceremony will be announced shortly.
