The IOC is thrilled to announce the programme of the upcoming workshop on the “Carbon balance of the olive sector: part of the solution against climate change”

MADRID, SPAIN / 09.10.2023

The International Workshop focusing on the carbon balance of the olive sector as part of the solution against climate change is around the corner. The triple day event will take place both in-person at the IOC’s headquarters in Madrid as well as online from Tuesday 17 to Thursday 19 October. The event will be held in English, with interpretation available in French and Spanish.

It will constitute a unique meeting point for all of the sector’s expert stakeholders – from researchers, scientists and project coordinators to lawyers, policy makers and private company representatives – to analyse the fundamental role that olive groves play in responding to climate change.

During the course of three days, the most prominent figures from the olive oil sector will address timely and urgent issues, such as the current regulatory system, the European Union (EU) certification framework for carbon removals, the state of affairs concerning carbon markets, and agricultural practices aimed at improving the carbon balance in olive orchards. These, amongst many other themes, will be at the centre of the discussions of the guest international experts on the third week of October. It is safe to say that this time-sensitive workshop, organised by the International Olive Council (IOC) in its capacity as the world’s only intergovernmental organisation devoted to olive oil and table olives, is at the forefront of the latest developments concerning the olive tree’s role in climate change.
