Madrid – The Executive Secretariat welcomed partners from LIFE RESILIENCE (http://www.liferesilience.eu/), a European project aiming to spread awareness about sustainable practices for preventing Xylella fastidiosa in intensive almond and olive tree cultivation.
Jaime Lillo, Deputy Executive Director of the IOC, Abdelkrim Adi, Head of the Technology and Environment Unit, and Catarina Bairrão Balula, Head of the Technical Cooperation and Training Unit, welcomed Teresa Carrillo Cobo, from Galpagro, and Ricarado Migueláñez, from Agrifood Comunicación, two members of the project.
The project will end in 2022 and aims to create and develop new varieties of olive plants that are resistant to pathogens and adapted for intensive systems of production through irrigation. It also aims to offer practical demonstrations of sustainable production techniques, including natural methods of vector control that prevent the spread of the bacteria and improve resistance to bacteria and pathogens in general. The IOC will help disseminate the results of the project around the world.
