Gen4Olive Project

Madrid / 05.05.2021
An IOC survey to determine end-user needs related to olive genetic resources

The International Olive Council is an active partner in the Gen4Olive project and is part of its Advisory Board. The main objective of this project is to develop collective pre-production activities aimed at in-depth characterisation of over 500 global varieties and 1 000 wild and ancient genotypes around 5 themes: climate change, pests and diseases, production, quality, and modern planting systems.

Some 17 countries and five germplasm banks of the IOC network, including three IOC international collections (Cordoba, Marrakech and Izmir) are participating in this project. The budget is approximately €7 million.

The project launched a survey to determine end-user needs related to olive genetic resources that is available in seven languages. The survey will be open until 9 May 2021.

In order to make a representative evaluation, we kindly ask that you distribute it among your contacts (farmers, breeders, nursery or industry workers/owners). The survey can be done from a computer or from a mobile phone and doesn’t require identification.
