On 28 April 2025, Deputy Executive Director of the International Olive Council (IOC), Abderraouf Laajimi, took part in the “El secreto está en el suelo” (“The secret is in the soil”) conference on regenerative agriculture, organised by the Yara Chair at the University of Córdoba.
Speaking in a session dedicated to the olive sector’s role in climate mitigation, Laajimi underlined the IOC’s commitment to sustainable production and the circular economy. He emphasised the unique potential of olive cultivation to contribute to soil regeneration, carbon sequestration and biodiversity conservation.
Drawing on the Organisation’s international work, the IOC’s representative presented the olive sector as a model of resilience and opportunity in the face of global challenges such as climate change and food system transformation. He also participated in the final roundtable alongside representatives from government, academia and the private sector, where he stressed the importance of innovation, collaboration and knowledge transfer to drive a successful regenerative transition.
The IOC’s participation in this event reflects its strategic focus on sustainability and its role as a global reference point for the olive sector.
