EXPORT FIGURES OF TABLE OLIVES IN THE EUROPEAN UNION (EU-27)

In February of the 2022/2023 crop year, the unit value of extra-EU exports of table olives stood at €318 per 100kg (+4.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or +1.8% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 25 145.4 tonnes (-3.2% compared to the same period previous crop year or +17.8% compared to the previous month).

As for first estimates of the 2021/2022 crop year, extra-EU exports of table olives reached 322 670 tonnes for an estimated value of €1.002 billion (+3.5% and +15.3% , respectively, compared to the previous crop year).

Spanish exports of table olives reached 321 287 tonnes in the 2021/2022 crop year for an estimated value of €823.7 million, placing it in first place followed by Greece with 185 196 tonnes and €644.4 million; Portugal with 42 019 tonnes and €50.3 million ; and Italy with 30 898 tonnes and €112.1 million.

On the other hand, intra-EU exports reached 302 493 tonnes for an estimated value of €794.2 million (+6% and +10.6%, respectively, compared to the previous crop year).

In terms of volumes by product category, 84.2% of total imports were under code 20057000 (olives, prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid (excl. frozen)) in the 2020/2021 crop year, followed by imports under 20019065 with 5.3%, 07099210 with 5.2%, 07112010 with 3.4%, and the remaining 1.9% under 07108010.

In February of the 2022/2023 crop year, the unit value of extra-EU exports of table olives stood at €318 per 100kg (+4.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or +1.8% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 25 145.4 tonnes (-3.2% compared to the same period previous crop year or +17.8% compared to the previous month).

Also in February, extra-EU exports mainly went to Australia(-15.6%), Brazil(-60.4%), Canada(-33.8%), Russian Federation(+1.9%), Arabia Saudi(+57.1%), United kingdom(-11%), and United States(+8.5%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

By country, Greece and Spain are the most representative table olives exporters from the European Union to other countries. They cover around 42% of global table olives exports.

Spain

The IOC’s figures for Spain from February of the 2022/2023 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €296 per 100kg (+15.6% compared to the same period previous crop year or +5.8% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 15 024.4 tonnes (-6.6% compared to the same period previous crop year or +29.9% compared to the previous month).

Spanish exports mainly went to Australia(-5.5%), Brazil(-68%), Canada(-46.6%), Japan(-40.3%), Russian Federation(-34.1%), Arabia Saudi(+48.7%), United kingdom(-30%), United States(+27.1%), Italy(+3.8%), Germany(+5%), France(+2.8%), and Portugal(+74%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €253 per 100kg (+7.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or -6% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 10 538.7 tonnes (+9.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or +22.6% compared to the previous month).

Greece

The IOC’s figures for Greece from February of the 2022/2023 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €341 per 100kg (-16.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or -3.3% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 6 347 tonnes (-7.6% compared to the same period previous crop year or +1.6% compared to the previous month). The volume exported to United States was -21.1%, Italy was +62.1%, Germany was -12.2%, Romania was -16.7%, Australia was -28.8%, and Albania was +20.6% compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €309 per 100kg (-6.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or -0.3% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 7 399.1 tonnes (+6.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or +6.7% compared to the previous month).

Portugal

The IOC’s figures for Portugal from February of the 2022/2023 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €322 per 100kg (+58.6% compared to the same period previous crop year or +4.1% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 700.4 tonnes (-23.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or -45.5% compared to the previous month). The volume exported to United States was -60.6%, Russia was -12.6%, Canada was +258.9%, Brazil was -19.6%, Spain was -27.6%, and France was -35.3% compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €77 per 100kg (+2.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or -3.5% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 1 549.6 tonnes (-26.5% compared to the same period previous crop year or -27.5% compared to the previous month).

Italy

The IOC’s figures for Italy from February of the 2022/2023 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €425 per 100kg (+20.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or +1.6% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 1 687 tonnes (+22.1% compared to the same period previous crop year or +73% compared to the previous month).

Extra-EU exports mainly went to Australia(+21.5%), Canada(+12.3%), Japan(+18.8%), United kingdom(+49.3%), United States(+17.3%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €370 per 100kg (+0.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or +12.3% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 844.7 tonnes (+35.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or -31.8% compared to the previous month).
