EXPORT FIGURES OF TABLE OLIVES IN THE EUROPEAN UNION (EU-27)

As for first estimates of the 2020/2021 crop year, extra-EU exports of table olives reached 320 972 tonnes for an estimated value of €868.5 million (+8.7% and +4.6% , respectively, compared to the previous crop year). In May of the 2021/2022 crop year the unit value of extra-EU exports stood at € 327 per 100kg (-0.3% compared to the previous month).

Spanish exports of table olives reached 309 323 tonnes in the 2020/2021 crop year for an estimated value of €734.4 million, placing it in first place followed by Greece with 192 396 tonnes and €551.7 million; Portugal with 29 978 tonnes and €43.7 million ; and Italy with 28 556 tonnes and €95.9 million.

In the 2020/2021 crop year, extra-EU exports of table olives reached 320 972 tonnes for an estimated value of €868.5 million (+8.7% and +0% , respectively, compared to the previous crop year).

In terms of volumes by product category, 85.7% of total imports were under code 20057000 (olives, prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid (excl. frozen)) in the 2020/2021 crop year, followed by imports under 20019065 with 5.4%, 07099210 with 3.4%, 07112010 with 4%, and the remaining 1.5% under 07108010.

In May of the 2021/2022 crop year, the unit value of extra-EU exports of table olives stood at €327 per 100kg (+22.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or -0.3% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 31 888.5 tonnes (+9.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or +10.7% compared to the previous month).

Also in May, extra-EU exports mainly went to Australia(+0.3%), Brazil(+319.9%), Canada(+6%), Russian Federation(-19.1%), Arabia Saudi(+22.1%), United kingdom(-11.7%), and United States(+10.4%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

By country, Greece and Spain are the most representative table olives exporters from the European Union to other countries. They cover around 42% of global table olives exports.

Spain

The IOC’s figures for Spain from May of the 2021/2022 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €266 per 100kg (+6.6% compared to the same period previous crop year or -2.8% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 18 981.3 tonnes (+11.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or +9.1% compared to the previous month).

Spanish exports mainly went to Australia(+22.4%), Brazil(+493.6%), Canada(+21.4%), Japan(-5.3%), Russian Federation(-39.3%), Arabia Saudi(+20.8%), United kingdom(-11.6%), United States(+6.8%), Italy(+42.9%), Germany(+1.4%), France(+23.5%), and Portugal(+22.6%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €260 per 100kg (+11.3% compared to the same period previous crop year or -2.4% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 12 836.3 tonnes (+31% compared to the same period previous crop year or +19% compared to the previous month).

Greece

The IOC’s figures for Greece from May of the 2021/2022 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €454 per 100kg (+64.2% compared to the same period previous crop year or +3.8% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 8 777.8 tonnes (-0.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or +9.1% compared to the previous month). The volume exported to United States was +15.8%, Italy was +6.3%, Germany was -6.4%, Romania was -49.7%, Australia was -18.1%, and Albania was -19.6% compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €311 per 100kg (+10.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or -14.3% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 8 346.2 tonnes (+7.2% compared to the same period previous crop year or +22.5% compared to the previous month).

Portugal

The IOC’s figures for Portugal from May of the 2021/2022 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €266 per 100kg (+22.6% compared to the same period previous crop year or +9% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 1 247.2 tonnes (+99.3% compared to the same period previous crop year or +53.4% compared to the previous month). The volume exported to United States was +73.5%, Russia was +608.2%, Canada was +435.4%, Brazil was -20.9%, Spain was +66.5%, and France was -37.8% compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €82 per 100kg (-20.2% compared to the same period previous crop year or +4.8% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 1 362.3 tonnes (+49.6% compared to the same period previous crop year or -13.2% compared to the previous month).

Italy

The IOC’s figures for Italy from May of the 2021/2022 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €375 per 100kg (+4.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or +0.2% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 2 047.9 tonnes (+6.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or +4.9% compared to the previous month).

Extra-EU exports mainly went to Australia(+131.7%), Canada(-36.8%), Japan(-37.4%), United kingdom(+12.4%), United States(-5.1%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €379 per 100kg (+9.3% compared to the same period previous crop year or +10.6% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 1 018.8 tonnes (+35.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or -3.3% compared to the previous month).
