As for first estimates of the 2020/2021 crop year, extra-EU exports of olive oli reached 804 009 tonnes for an estimated value of €2 856.2 millions (-2% and +6% , respectively, compared to the previous crop year).

In February of the 2021/2022 crop year, the unit value index of extra-EU exports increased by +1% compared to the previous month. The unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €420 per 100kg (+0.4% compared to the previous month).

Spanish exports of olive oil reached 1 106 058 tonnes in the 2020/2021 crop year for an estimated value of €3.189 billion, placing it in first place followed by Italy with 350 225 tonnes and €1.437 billion ; Portugal with 191 954 tonnes and €590.5 millions ; and Greece with 171 850 tonnes and €582.1 millions.

In the 2020/2021 crop year, extra-EU exports of olive oil reached 804 009 tonnes for an estimated value of €2.856 billion (-2% and +6% , respectively, compared to the previous crop year).

In terms of volumes by product category in the 2019/2020 crop year, 70.7% of total exports were under code 15091020 (extra virgin olive oil), followed by imports under 15091080 (Virgin olive oil) with 5.8%, 15099000 (Other olive oils) with 19%, and the remaining 4.4% under 15091010 (Virgin lampante).

In February of the 2021/2022 crop year, the unit value index of extra-EU exports stood at 110.4 (+31.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or +1% compared to the previous month).

Also in February of the 2021/2022 crop year, the unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €420 per 100kg (+21.5% compared to the same period previous crop year or +0.4% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 66 458.9 tonnes (+4.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or +21.6% compared to the previous month).

Extra-EU exports mainly went to Australia(-21.8%), Brazil(-7.7%), Canada(+2.4%), China(+14.4%), Japan(+6.4%), Republic of Korea(-1.5%), Russian Federation(-20.1%), United kingdom(+46.2%), United States(+12.4%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

By country, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain are the most representative olive oil exporters from the European Union to other countries. They cover around 70% of global olive oil exports.

Spain

The IOC’s figures for Spain from February of the 2021/2022 crop year put the unit value index of exports at 118.8 (+36.2% compared to the same period previous crop year or +0.7% compared to the previous month).

The unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €384 per 100kg (+26% compared to the same period previous crop year or +0.9% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 38 196.9 tonnes (+3.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or +28.1% compared to the previous month).

Spanish exports mainly went to Australia(-14%), Brazil(-9.5%), Canada(-52.8%), China(+13.5%), Japan(-7.3%), Republic of Korea(+4.8%), Russian Federation(-2.6%), United kingdom(+56.4%), United States(+20.7%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €326 per 100kg (+33.3% compared to the same period previous crop year or -0.7% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 52 032.6 tonnes (-25.3% compared to the same period previous crop year or +14.7% compared to the previous month).

Italy

The IOC’s figures for Italy from February of the 2021/2022 crop year put the unit value index at 108.8 (+23.5% compared to the same period previous crop year or +6.5% compared to the previous month).

The unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €476 per 100kg (+13.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or +0.4% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 18 846.6 tonnes (+10.1% compared to the same period previous crop year or +13.7% compared to the previous month).

Extra-EU exports mainly went to Australia(-51.7%), Brazil(+49.4%), Canada(+62.5%), China(+22.9%), Japan(+32.3%), Republic of Korea(-37.7%), Russian Federation(-16.3%), United kingdom(+33.2%), United States(-1.3%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €450 per 100kg (+20.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or +16.6% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 9 353.6 tonnes (-0.2% compared to the same period previous crop year or -0.8% compared to the previous month).

Greece

The IOC’s figures for Greece from February of the 2021/2022 crop year put unit value index of exports at 115.5 (+14.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or +1.8% compared to the previous month).

the unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €474 per 100kg (+20.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or -1.2% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 2 361.1 tonnes (+17.1% compared to the same period previous crop year or +67.6% compared to the previous month). The volume exported to United States was +23.5% compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €382 per 100kg (+20.2% compared to the same period previous crop year or +1.8% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 10 271.7 tonnes (-25.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or +2.6% compared to the previous month).

Portugal

The IOC’s figures for Portugal from February of the 2021/2022 crop year put the unit value index of exports at 96.4 (+14.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or +1% compared to the previous month).

The unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €423 per 100kg (+18.1% compared to the same period previous crop year or -1.3% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 5 757.7 tonnes (-3.1% compared to the same period previous crop year or +1.1% compared to the previous month). The volume exported to Brazil was -11.2% compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €319 per 100kg (+28.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or +1.4% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 15 165.9 tonnes (+5.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or -5.6% compared to the previous month).
