EXPORT FIGURES OF TABLE OLIVES IN THE EUROPEAN UNION (EU-27)

As for first estimates of the 2020/2021 crop year, extra-EU exports of table olives reached 320 829 tonnes for an estimated value of €868.1 millions (+8.6% and +4.6% , respectively, compared to the previous crop year). In January of the 2021/2022 crop year the unit value of extra-EU exports stood at € 293 per 100kg (+2.4% compared to the previous month).

Spanish exports of table olives reached 306 188 tonnes in the 2020/2021 crop year for an estimated value of €732.7 millions, placing it in first place followed by Greece with 191 965 tonnes and €551.4 millions; Portugal with 29 996 tonnes and €43.8 millions ; and Italy with 28 474 tonnes and €94.8 millions.

In the 2020/2021 crop year, extra-EU exports of table olives reached 320 829 tonnes for an estimated value of €868.1 millions (+8.6% and +4.6% , respectively, compared to the previous crop year).

In terms of volumes by product category, 86.2% of total imports were under code 20057000 (olives, prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid (excl. frozen)) in the 2020/2021 crop year, followed by imports under 20019065 with 5.4%, 07099210 with 3.4%, 07112010 with 4%, and the remaining 1% under 07108010.

In January of the 2021/2022 crop year, the unit value of extra-EU exports of table olives stood at €293 per 100kg (+7.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or +2.4% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 20 610.7 tonnes (+10.1% compared to the same period previous crop year or -27.6% compared to the previous month).

Also in January, extra-EU exports mainly went to Australia(+8.8%), Brazil(+136.2%), Canada(-18.9%), Russian Federation(+47.2%), Arabia Saudi(+2.3%), United kingdom(+79.4%), and United States(-6.7%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

By country, Greece and Spain are the most representative table olives exporters from the European Union to other countries. They cover around 42% of global table olives exports.

Spain

The IOC’s figures for Spain from January of the 2021/2022 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €264 per 100kg (+4.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or -2.3% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 12 129.1 tonnes (+18.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or -29.2% compared to the previous month).

Spanish exports mainly went to Australia(+40.5%), Brazil(+586.7%), Canada(+12.6%), Japan(-1.7%), Russian Federation(+50.6%), Arabia Saudi(+4.4%), United kingdom(+91%), United States(-16.1%), Italy(+16.8%), Germany(-23.7%), France(-7.4%), and Portugal(-43.8%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €235 per 100kg (+7.6% compared to the same period previous crop year or +9.1% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 7 389.3 tonnes (-11.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or -32.9% compared to the previous month).

Greece

The IOC’s figures for Greece from January of the 2021/2022 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €333 per 100kg (+16% compared to the same period previous crop year or +7.4% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 6 259.5 tonnes (+1.3% compared to the same period previous crop year or -22.3% compared to the previous month). The volume exported to United States was +8.7%, Italy was -10.6%, Germany was -20.3%, Romania was +79.8%, Australia was -4.6%, and Albania was +8.8% compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €305 per 100kg (-2.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or +9.1% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 6 919.4 tonnes (+14.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or -4.6% compared to the previous month).

Portugal

The IOC’s figures for Portugal from January of the 2021/2022 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €237 per 100kg (+19.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or -2.1% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 342.8 tonnes (-41.6% compared to the same period previous crop year or -53% compared to the previous month). The volume exported to United States was -64.8%, Russia was -46.1%, Canada was -70.2%, Brazil was -66.3%, Spain was +122.3%, and France was -37.5% compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €78 per 100kg (-10.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or +14.4% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 1 541 tonnes (+105.1% compared to the same period previous crop year or -52.6% compared to the previous month).

Italy

The IOC’s figures for Italy from January of the 2021/2022 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €363 per 100kg (+9.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or +12.7% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 1 262.8 tonnes (+2.1% compared to the same period previous crop year or -23% compared to the previous month).

Extra-EU exports mainly went to Australia(+27.1%), Canada(-76.4%), Japan(-72.9%), United kingdom(+36.1%), United States(+0.8%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €302 per 100kg (+27.2% compared to the same period previous crop year or -8.3% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 873.7 tonnes (-7.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or +15.6% compared to the previous month).

In January of the 2021/2022 crop year, the unit value index of the extra-EU in stood at 14.3 (-60.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or -19.7% compared to the previous month).
