As for first estimates of the 2020/2021 crop year, extra-EU exports of olive oli reached 803 292 tonnes for an estimated value of €2 854.2 millions (-2.1% and +6% , respectively, compared to the previous crop year).

In January of the 2021/2022 crop year, the unit value index of extra-EU exports increased by +1.3% compared to the previous month. The unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €418 per 100kg (+1.7% compared to the previous month).

Spanish exports of olive oil reached 1 093 051 tonnes in the 2020/2021 crop year for an estimated value of €3.149 billion, placing it in first place followed by Italy with 349 995 tonnes and €1.434 billion ; Portugal with 191 007 tonnes and €587.6 millions ; and Greece with 171 541 tonnes and €581 millions.

In the 2020/2021 crop year, extra-EU exports of olive oil reached 803 292 tonnes for an estimated value of €2.854 billion (-2.1% and +6% , respectively, compared to the previous crop year).

In terms of volumes by product category in the 2019/2020 crop year, 70.7% of total exports were under code 15091020 (extra virgin olive oil), followed by imports under 15091080 (Virgin olive oil) with 5.8%, 15099000 (Other olive oils) with 19%, and the remaining 4.4% under 15091010 (Virgin lampante).

In January of the 2021/2022 crop year, the unit value index of extra-EU exports stood at 108.8 (+36.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or +1.3% compared to the previous month).

Also in January of the 2021/2022 crop year, the unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €418 per 100kg (+27.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or +1.7% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 54 671.6 tonnes (-8.3% compared to the same period previous crop year or -12.2% compared to the previous month).

Extra-EU exports mainly went to Australia(-15.4%), Brazil(-12.7%), Canada(+9.5%), China(+24.7%), Japan(+9.3%), Republic of Korea(-6.8%), Russian Federation(-26.3%), United kingdom(+51.9%), United States(-31.5%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

By country, Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain are the most representative olive oil exporters from the European Union to other countries. They cover around 70% of global olive oil exports.

Spain

The IOC’s figures for Spain from January of the 2021/2022 crop year put the unit value index of exports at 117.8 (+40.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or +0.6% compared to the previous month).

The unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €381 per 100kg (+33.1% compared to the same period previous crop year or +2.5% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 29 807 tonnes (-13.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or -16.4% compared to the previous month).

Spanish exports mainly went to Australia(-14.1%), Brazil(-16.4%), Canada(+22.2%), China(+29%), Japan(-9.8%), Republic of Korea(-9.7%), Russian Federation(-17.8%), United kingdom(+52.5%), United States(-38.2%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €329 per 100kg (+37% compared to the same period previous crop year or +4.5% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 45 279.5 tonnes (-13.2% compared to the same period previous crop year or +21.7% compared to the previous month).

Italy

The IOC’s figures for Italy from January of the 2021/2022 crop year put the unit value index at 101.5 (+18.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or -4.2% compared to the previous month).

The unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €475 per 100kg (+19.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or +0.6% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 16 577 tonnes (+2.1% compared to the same period previous crop year or -13.5% compared to the previous month).

Extra-EU exports mainly went to Australia(-14.1%), Brazil(-46.4%), Canada(+10.6%), China(+9.7%), Japan(+68.5%), Republic of Korea(+14.9%), Russian Federation(-13.1%), United kingdom(+44.2%), United States(-20.6%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €386 per 100kg (+2.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or -13.8% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 9 426 tonnes (+4.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or +0.1% compared to the previous month).

Greece

The IOC’s figures for Greece from January of the 2021/2022 crop year put unit value index of exports at 113.1 (+19.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or +2.3% compared to the previous month).

the unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €480 per 100kg (+20.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or -1.4% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 1 408.9 tonnes (-21.1% compared to the same period previous crop year or -30.4% compared to the previous month). The volume exported to United States was -41% compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €375 per 100kg (+26.2% compared to the same period previous crop year or +4.1% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 10 016 tonnes (-41.6% compared to the same period previous crop year or +1.3% compared to the previous month).

Portugal

The IOC’s figures for Portugal from January of the 2021/2022 crop year put the unit value index of exports at 93.8 (+11.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or +14.3% compared to the previous month).

The unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €429 per 100kg (+24% compared to the same period previous crop year or +0.3% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 5 695.7 tonnes (-7% compared to the same period previous crop year or +43.2% compared to the previous month). The volume exported to Brazil was -7.6% compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €310 per 100kg (+21.6% compared to the same period previous crop year or +11.2% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 16 587.2 tonnes (+36.5% compared to the same period previous crop year or -56.8% compared to the previous month).
