As for first estimates of the 2020/2021 crop year, extra-EU exports of table olives reached 320 829 tonnes for an estimated value of €868.1 millions (+8.6% and +4.6% , respectively, compared to the previous crop year). In October of the 2021/2022 crop year the unit value of extra-EU exports stood at € 274 per 100kg (+0.7% compared to the previous month).
Spanish exports of table olives reached 306 188 tonnes in the 2020/2021 crop year for an estimated value of €732.7 millions, placing it in first place followed by Greece with 191 965 tonnes and €551.4 millions; Portugal with 29 996 tonnes and €43.8 millions ; and Italy with 28 474 tonnes and €94.8 millions.
In the 2020/2021 crop year, extra-EU exports of table olives reached 320 829 tonnes for an estimated value of €868.1 millions (+8.6% and +0% , respectively, compared to the previous crop year).

In terms of volumes by product category, 86.2% of total imports were under code 20057000 (olives, prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid (excl. frozen)) in the 2020/2021 crop year, followed by imports under 20019065 with 5.4%, 07099210 with 3.4%, 07112010 with 4%, and the remaining 1% under 07108010.
In October of the 2021/2022 crop year, the unit value of extra-EU exports of table olives stood at €274 per 100kg (-0.5% compared to the same period previous crop year or +0.7% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 27 730.5 tonnes (-8.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or -5.4% compared to the previous month).
Also in October, extra-EU exports mainly went to Australia(-26.8%), Brazil(+31.3%), Canada(-31.1%), Russian Federation(-23.7%), Arabia Saudi(-2.4%), United kingdom(+4.7%), and United States(-17.4%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

Spain
The IOC’s figures for Spain from October of the 2021/2022 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €256 per 100kg (+2.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or +0.2% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 16 142.5 tonnes (-10.6% compared to the same period previous crop year or -6.2% compared to the previous month).
Spanish exports mainly went to Australia(-42.6%), Brazil(+37.1%), Canada(-39.2%), Japan(+11.4%), Russian Federation(-7.3%), Arabia Saudi(-11.1%), United kingdom(-7.5%), United States(-30%), Italy(+0.1%), Germany(-4.1%), France(-20.1%), and Portugal(+25.2%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.
The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €194 per 100kg (-2.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or -15.3% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 11 706.8 tonnes (-2% compared to the same period previous crop year or +14.2% compared to the previous month).
Greece
The IOC’s figures for Greece from October of the 2021/2022 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €295 per 100kg (-10.3% compared to the same period previous crop year or +3.3% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 8 339.5 tonnes (+0% compared to the same period previous crop year or -11.1% compared to the previous month). The volume exported to United States was -3.4%, Italy was +11.5%, Germany was +45.6%, Romania was -25.2%, Australia was -18.4%, and Albania was -1% compared to the same period the previous crop year.
The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €271 per 100kg (-4.3% compared to the same period previous crop year or +2.9% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 8 792.5 tonnes (+14.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or +0.2% compared to the previous month).
Portugal
The IOC’s figures for Portugal from October of the 2021/2022 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €246 per 100kg (+22.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or -1.7% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 1 131 tonnes (-41.3% compared to the same period previous crop year or +73.1% compared to the previous month). The volume exported to United States was +5.4%, Russia was -61.6%, Canada was -54.2%, Brazil was -0.1%, Spain was +165.9%, and France was -43% compared to the same period the previous crop year.
The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €70 per 100kg (-24.3% compared to the same period previous crop year or -5.8% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 4 468.3 tonnes (+117.2% compared to the same period previous crop year or +40.8% compared to the previous month).
Italy
The IOC’s figures for Italy from October of the 2021/2022 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €341 per 100kg (-5.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or -4.6% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 1 348.6 tonnes (+12.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or +2% compared to the previous month).
Extra-EU exports mainly went to Australia(-12.1%), Canada(+8.6%), Japan(-63.5%), United kingdom(+394.3%), United States(-7.1%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.
The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €357 per 100kg (+27.2% compared to the same period previous crop year or +10.7% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 657.1 tonnes (-12.5% compared to the same period previous crop year or -33.2% compared to the previous month).

In order to make the historical data comparable the figures have been calculated for the EU-27. The United Kingdom is no longer a Member State of the European Union, however until the end of the transition period, 31 January 2020, it is still part of the EU Customs Union.

Olive crop year means the period from 1 September of year t to 30 August of year t+1 for table olives.
Trade value in FOB type (free on board).
Export unit value in € / 100 kg.
Export value in € (1 millions = 106; 1 billion = 109).

The unit value index of exports is based on Paasche’ Chain Index method. The data are not seasonally adjusted. The unit value is calculated as (trade value)/quantity.
