EXPORT FIGURES OF TABLE OLIVES IN THE EUROPEAN UNION (EU-27)

As for first estimates of the 2020/2021 crop year, extra-EU exports of table olives reached 320 810 tonnes for an estimated value of €868 millions (+8.6% and +4.6% , respectively, compared to the previous crop year). On the other hand, in August of the 2020/2021 crop year the unit value of extra-EU exports stood at € 266 per 100kg (-2% compared to the previous month).

Spanish exports of table olives reached 315 484 tonnes in the 2019/2020 crop year for an estimated value of €736.3 millions, placing it in first place followed by Greece with 151 006 tonnes and €519.1 millions; Portugal with 41 451 tonnes and €50.5 millions ; and Italy with 22 176 tonnes and €76.3 millions.

In the 2019/2020 crop year, extra-EU exports of table olives reached 295 365 tonnes for an estimated value of €830 millions (-6.3% and -3.2% , respectively, compared to the previous crop year).

On the other hand, intra-EU exports reached 280 108 tonnes for an estimated value of €704.8 millions (+1.9% and +4.4%, respectively, compared to the previous crop year).

In terms of volumes by product category, 84.3% of total imports were under code 20057000 (olives, prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid (excl. frozen)) in the 2019/2020 crop year, followed by imports under 20019065 with 4.9%, 07099210 with 4.4%, 07112010 with 5.2%, and the remaining 1.1% under 07108010.

In August of the 2020/2021 crop year, the unit value of extra-EU exports of table olives stood at €266 per 100kg (-7.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or -2% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 20 655 tonnes (+14.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or -32.8% compared to the previous month).

Also in August, extra-EU exports mainly went to Australia(-21.8%), Brazil(+175.6%), Canada(-20.8%), Russian Federation(+24.3%), Arabia Saudi(+51.9%), United kingdom(+35.6%), and United States(+6.1%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

By country, Greece and Spain are the most representative table olives exporters from the European Union to other countries. They cover around 42% of global table olives exports.

Spain

The IOC’s figures for Spain from August of the 2020/2021 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €246 per 100kg (-5.1% compared to the same period previous crop year or -4.9% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 11 116.9 tonnes (+17.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or -30.1% compared to the previous month).

Spanish exports mainly went to Australia(-53.2%), Brazil(+166.8%), Canada(-17.2%), Japan(+20.1%), Russian Federation(+22.4%), Arabia Saudi(+85.5%), United kingdom(+10.6%), United States(+5.2%), Italy(+31%), Germany(+2.2%), France(-15%), and Portugal(+64.7%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €220 per 100kg (-5.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or -2.8% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 8 668.5 tonnes (+15.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or -31.1% compared to the previous month).

Greece

The IOC’s figures for Greece from August of the 2020/2021 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €286 per 100kg (-12.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or +1.7% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 6 268.9 tonnes (+8.5% compared to the same period previous crop year or -40.8% compared to the previous month). The volume exported to United States was +7.2%, Italy was +35.7%, Germany was +26.1%, Romania was +38.6%, Australia was -18.9%, and Albania was +5.8% compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €276 per 100kg (-15% compared to the same period previous crop year or +10.4% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 5 694.3 tonnes (+34.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or -46% compared to the previous month).

Portugal

The IOC’s figures for Portugal from August of the 2020/2021 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €204 per 100kg (+3.6% compared to the same period previous crop year or +4.8% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 1 446 tonnes (+22.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or -6% compared to the previous month). The volume exported to United States was +15.4%, Russia was +26.9%, Canada was -95.5%, Brazil was +179.6%, Spain was -32.4%, and France was -14% compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €86 per 100kg (+8.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or +5.6% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 1 067.7 tonnes (-32.5% compared to the same period previous crop year or -22.2% compared to the previous month).

Italy

The IOC’s figures for Italy from August of the 2020/2021 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €353 per 100kg (-8.6% compared to the same period previous crop year or +4.6% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 1 225.7 tonnes (+24.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or -38.5% compared to the previous month).

Extra-EU exports mainly went to Australia(+218.9%), Canada(+81.6%), Japan(-74.7%), United kingdom(+284.5%), United States(-0.6%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €308 per 100kg (-2% compared to the same period previous crop year or -6% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 826.6 tonnes (+22.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or -23.9% compared to the previous month).

In August of the 2020/2021 crop year, the unit value index of the extra-EU in stood at 11.5 (-76.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or -4.2% compared to the previous month).
