EXPORT FIGURES OF TABLE OLIVES IN THE EUROPEAN UNION (EU-27)

In July of the 2020/2021 crop year, the unit value of extra-EU exports stood at € 271 per 100kg (-0.9% compared to the previous month).

Spanish exports of table olives reached 313 920 tonnes in the 2019/2020 crop year for an estimated value of €734.9 millions, placing it in first place followed by Greece with 153 125 tonnes and €518.9 millions; Portugal with 42 266 tonnes and €51 millions ; and Italy with 22 081 tonnes and €75.3 millions.

In the 2019/2020 crop year, extra-EU exports of table olives reached 297 126 tonnes for an estimated value of €829.1 millions (-8.3% and -3.3% , respectively, compared to the previous crop year).

On the other hand, intra-EU exports reached 277 599 tonnes for an estimated value of €692.6 millions (+1.8% and +4.5%, respectively, compared to the previous crop year).

In terms of volumes by product category, 84.2% of total imports were under code 20057000 (olives, prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid (excl. frozen)) in the 2019/2020 crop year, followed by imports under 20019065 with 4.9%, 07099210 with 4.6%, 07112010 with 5.2%, and the remaining 1.2% under 07108010.

In July of the 2020/2021 crop year, the unit value of extra-EU exports of table olives stood at €271 per 100kg (-9.1% compared to the same period previous crop year or -0.9% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 30 752.8 tonnes (+16.6% compared to the same period previous crop year or +3.5% compared to the previous month).

Also in July, extra-EU exports mainly went to Australia(+7.3%), Brazil(+20.9%), Canada(+14.6%), Russian Federation(+62.9%), Arabia Saudi(-16.3%), United kingdom(+29.8%), and United States(+1.6%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

By country, Greece and Spain are the most representative table olives exporters from the European Union to other countries. They cover around 42% of global table olives exports.

Spain

The IOC’s figures for Spain from July of the 2020/2021 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €259 per 100kg (-0.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or +2% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 15 911.1 tonnes (-0.2% compared to the same period previous crop year or -2.9% compared to the previous month).

Spanish exports mainly went to Australia(-3.6%), Brazil(+13.9%), Canada(+22.2%), Japan(+17.4%), Russian Federation(+83.7%), Arabia Saudi(-14.3%), United kingdom(-2.4%), United States(-32.1%), Italy(-5.9%), Germany(-10.6%), France(+1.3%), and Portugal(+67.5%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €227 per 100kg (-3.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or -5.9% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 12 585.9 tonnes (+4.3% compared to the same period previous crop year or +6.5% compared to the previous month).

Greece

The IOC’s figures for Greece from July of the 2020/2021 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €281 per 100kg (-26% compared to the same period previous crop year or -2.5% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 10 583 tonnes (+50.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or +14.5% compared to the previous month). The volume exported to United States was +58%, Italy was +73.3%, Germany was +38.1%, Romania was +26.7%, Australia was +19.8%, and Albania was +43.9% compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €250 per 100kg (-24.3% compared to the same period previous crop year or -2.4% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 10 554 tonnes (+40% compared to the same period previous crop year or +26.2% compared to the previous month).

Portugal

The IOC’s figures for Portugal from July of the 2020/2021 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €195 per 100kg (-8.3% compared to the same period previous crop year or -11.2% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 1 538.9 tonnes (+4.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or +27.8% compared to the previous month). The volume exported to United States was -2.6%, Russia was +33.8%, Canada was -94.7%, Brazil was +102.8%, Spain was -46%, and France was -55% compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €82 per 100kg (+3.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or -14.6% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 1 371.7 tonnes (-40.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or +68.5% compared to the previous month).

Italy

The IOC’s figures for Italy from July of the 2020/2021 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €338 per 100kg (-8.2% compared to the same period previous crop year or -7.4% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 1 994.3 tonnes (+55.5% compared to the same period previous crop year or -2% compared to the previous month).

Extra-EU exports mainly went to Australia(-51.1%), Canada(+51.5%), Japan(+38.8%), United kingdom(+221.9%), United States(+51.9%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €328 per 100kg (+2.3% compared to the same period previous crop year or -5.2% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 1 085.6 tonnes (+4.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or +21.9% compared to the previous month).

In July of the 2020/2021 crop year, the unit value index of the extra-EU in stood at 12.9 (-82.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or -4.4% compared to the previous month).
