EXPORT FIGURES OF TABLE OLIVES IN THE EUROPEAN UNION (EU-27)

As for first estimates of the 2020/2021 crop year, extra-EU exports of table olives reached 311 847 tonnes for an estimated value of €868.7 million (+5.6% and +4.7% , respectively, compared to the previous crop year). In June of the 2021/2022 crop year the unit value of extra-EU exports stood at € 340 per 100kg (+4% compared to the previous month).

Spanish exports of table olives reached 307 653 tonnes in the 2020/2021 crop year for an estimated value of €728.4 million, placing it in first place followed by Greece with 183 002 tonnes and €551.8 million; Portugal with 29 978 tonnes and €43.7 million ; and Italy with 28 556 tonnes and €95.9 million.

In the 2020/2021 crop year, extra-EU exports of table olives reached 311 847 tonnes for an estimated value of €868.7 million (+5.6% and +0% , respectively, compared to the previous crop year).

On the other hand, intra-EU exports reached 280 333 tonnes for an estimated value of €705.1 million (+2% and +4.4%, respectively, compared to the previous crop year).

In terms of volumes by product category, 85.4% of total imports were under code 20057000 (olives, prepared or preserved otherwise than by vinegar or acetic acid (excl. frozen)) in the 2020/2021 crop year, followed by imports under 20019065 with 5.5%, 07099210 with 3.4%, 07112010 with 4.1%, and the remaining 1.5% under 07108010.

In June of the 2021/2022 crop year, the unit value of extra-EU exports of table olives stood at €340 per 100kg (+19.2% compared to the same period previous crop year or +4% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 29 294.9 tonnes (+2.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or -8.1% compared to the previous month).

Also in June, extra-EU exports mainly went to Australia(+28.4%), Brazil(+327.7%), Canada(-14.3%), Russian Federation(-30.3%), Arabia Saudi(+36.6%), United kingdom(+4.7%), and United States(-6.9%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

Intra-EU exports mainly went to Italy, Germany and France.

By country, Greece and Spain are the most representative table olives exporters from the European Union to other countries. They cover around 42% of global table olives exports.

Spain

The IOC’s figures for Spain from June of the 2021/2022 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €285 per 100kg (+12.2% compared to the same period previous crop year or +6.9% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 16 380.7 tonnes (-0.1% compared to the same period previous crop year or -13.7% compared to the previous month).

Spanish exports mainly went to Australia(-9.8%), Brazil(+382.5%), Canada(+6.5%), Japan(-10.7%), Russian Federation(-19.6%), Arabia Saudi(+41.4%), United kingdom(+19%), United States(-25.8%), Italy(+25.5%), Germany(-3.3%), France(+14.1%), and Portugal(+61.5%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €247 per 100kg (+2.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or -4.8% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 14 386 tonnes (+21.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or +12.1% compared to the previous month).

Greece

The IOC’s figures for Greece from June of the 2021/2022 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €446 per 100kg (+34.5% compared to the same period previous crop year or -1.6% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 8 722.1 tonnes (+8.6% compared to the same period previous crop year or -0.6% compared to the previous month). The volume exported to United States was +20.1%, Italy was -27.3%, Germany was -24.5%, Romania was -56.4%, Australia was +65.4%, and Albania was +2.7% compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €415 per 100kg (+60.6% compared to the same period previous crop year or +33.4% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 6 258 tonnes (-24.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or -25% compared to the previous month).

Portugal

The IOC’s figures for Portugal from June of the 2021/2022 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €231 per 100kg (+5.5% compared to the same period previous crop year or -13.2% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 1 384.9 tonnes (+15% compared to the same period previous crop year or +11.4% compared to the previous month). The volume exported to United States was +73.9%, Russia was -74%, Canada was -97.3%, Brazil was +143%, Spain was +171%, and France was +27.5% compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €79 per 100kg (-16.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or -5.9% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 2 047.2 tonnes (+146.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or +47.1% compared to the previous month).

Italy

The IOC’s figures for Italy from June of the 2021/2022 crop year put the unit value of extra-EU exports at €395 per 100kg (+8.3% compared to the same period previous crop year or +5.4% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 1 902.6 tonnes (-6.5% compared to the same period previous crop year or -7.1% compared to the previous month).

Extra-EU exports mainly went to Australia(-34.1%), Canada(+37.7%), Japan(+165.7%), United kingdom(-9.4%), United States(-26.9%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €391 per 100kg (+13% compared to the same period previous crop year or +3.2% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 1 155.5 tonnes (+29.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or +13.4% compared to the previous month).
