EXPORT FIGURES OF OLIVE OIL IN THE EUROPEAN UNION (EU-27)

Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain are the most representative olive oil exporters from the European Union to other countries. They cover around 70% of global olive oil exports.

In the 2019/2020 crop year, extra-EU exports of olive oil reached 820 663 tonnes for an estimated value of €2.6932 billion (+15.8% and -0.1% , respectively, compared to the previous crop year). Intra-EU exports reached 1 056 941 tonnes for an estimated value of €2.6622 billion (+12.9% and -3.1%, respectively, compared to the previous crop year).

In February of the 2020/2021 crop year, the unit value index of extra-EU exports stood at 77.8 (+16.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or +5.3% compared to the previous month).

Also in February of the 2020/2021 crop year, the unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €347 per 100kg (+0.9% compared to the same period previous crop year or +5.1% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 59 570 tonnes (+2.2% compared to the same period previous crop year or +6.3% compared to the previous month).

Extra-EU exports mainly went to Australia(+13.3%), Brazil(-22.2%), Canada(+5.8%), China(+30.2%), Japan(-23%), Republic of Korea(+91.1%), Russian Federation(+6.8%), United States(+24%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

By country, Spanish exports of olive oil reached 1 118 074 tonnes in the 2019/2020 crop year for an estimated value of €2.7962 billion, placing it in first place followed by Italy with 355 358 tonnes and €1.3574 billion ; Portugal with 208 919 tonnes and €588.9 millions ; and Greece with 160 856 tonnes and €450.7 millions.

The IOC’s figures for Spain from February of the 2020/2021 crop year put the unit value index of exports at 79.2 (+27.5% compared to the same period previous crop year or +4.1% compared to the previous month).

The unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €308 per 100kg (+4.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or +6.6% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 34 844.3 tonnes (+19.1% compared to the same period previous crop year or +7.5% compared to the previous month).

Spanish exports mainly went to Australia(+26.4%), Brazil(+28.6%), Canada(+82.1%), China(+45.7%), Japan(-14.2%), Republic of Korea(+83.4%), Russian Federation(-9%), United States(+58%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €245 per 100kg (+5.6% compared to the same period previous crop year or +2% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 68 606 tonnes (+59.5% compared to the same period previous crop year or +33.5% compared to the previous month).

The IOC’s figures for Italy from February of the 2020/2021 crop year put the unit value index at 83.2 (+23.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or +2.8% compared to the previous month).

The unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €416 per 100kg (+4.5% compared to the same period previous crop year or +5.5% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 16 122.5 tonnes (-12.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or +5.7% compared to the previous month).

Extra-EU exports mainly went to Australia(-40.2%), Brazil(-26%), Canada(-25.8%), China(-31.9%), Japan(-40.3%), Republic of Korea(+171.2%), Russian Federation(+33.7%), United States(-5.8%), compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €373 per 100kg (+10.3% compared to the same period previous crop year or -0.8% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 9 376 tonnes (+2.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or +3.8% compared to the previous month).

The IOC’s figures for Greece from February of the 2020/2021 crop year put unit value index of exports at 89.7 (+68% compared to the same period previous crop year or +6.4% compared to the previous month).

the unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €387 per 100kg (-0.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or -1.7% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 1 843.8 tonnes (-6.8% compared to the same period previous crop year or +8.6% compared to the previous month). The volume exported to United States was -21% compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €317 per 100kg (+41.2% compared to the same period previous crop year or +6.5% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 13 829.6 tonnes (-32.5% compared to the same period previous crop year or -19.1% compared to the previous month).

The IOC’s figures for Portugal from February of the 2020/2021 crop year put the unit value index of exports at 77.6 (+19.2% compared to the same period previous crop year or +0.5% compared to the previous month).

The unit value of extra-EU exports stood at €358 per 100kg (-1.5% compared to the same period previous crop year or +3.6% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 5 926.7 tonnes (-23.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or -3.1% compared to the previous month). The volume exported to Brazil was -33.3% compared to the same period the previous crop year.

The unit value of intra-EU exports stood at €248 per 100kg (+5.4% compared to the same period previous crop year or -3.1% compared to the previous month) while the export volume stood at 12 235.7 tonnes (+23.7% compared to the same period previous crop year or +14.3% compared to the previous month).
