Accession procedure

According to the 2005 International Agreement on Olive Oil and Table Olives, the governments of any countries wishing to join the Organisation have to submit an application to the Council of Members. They can do so through their Ministry of Foreign Affairs or another Ministry, or through their Embassy in Spain.
The Council of Members considers the applications and determines the participation shares of the candidate countries according to their importance in the world olive products economy, in line with articles 8 and 40 of the Agreement.
The participation shares are the basis for calculating the countries’ initial contribution to the budgets of the Organisation specified in article 15 of the Agreement.

The Council of Members also fixes a time limit (article 40) for applicants to file their instrument of accession with the depositary of the Agreement, which is the Government of Spain.
