The Executive Director is the chief administrative officer of the Executive Secretariat. He is responsible to the Council for the performance of the duties devolving pon him under the Agreement and, in particular, for the organisation, administration and supervision of the Executive Secretariat.

On a general level, the Executive office is responsible for ensuring coordination between the Divisions of the Executive Secretariat and the IOC Executive Director. It also has other specific duties ranging over a number of subject areas.

International Agreement on Olive Oil and Table Olives
Preparation of the conferences for the negotiation, renewal or extension of the Agreement.
Contacts with the IOC members and monitoring of the fulfilment of the legal formalities for the signature or ratification of the Agreement or other procedures.
Relations with the depositary of the Agreement.
General functioning: applications to accede, amendments of the Agreement, enquiries, etc.
Headquarters Agreement
Relations with the Government of Spain, the host country of the IOC, in the negotiations over, and subsequent amendments of, the Headquarters Agreement.
IOC rules of procedure
Formulation, amendment and updating of IOC rules of procedure.
Organisation chart of the Executive Secretariat
Preparation and updating.
Relations with IOC members, the IOC Chairman and observer countries
Correspondence with the IOC Chairman.
Consultations with members (decision-making by correspondence, etc.).
IOC sessions
Compilation and transmittal of the agenda together with the notices convening the IOC sessions (spring and autumn).
Preparation of the report on general business.
Transmittal of session documentation to the IOC members and observers.
Transmittal of the summary record and final report of IOC sessions.
Assistance to the Executive Director during IOC sessions.
Meetings of the Heads of Delegation
Preparation of meetings and compilation of the meeting agenda.
Preparation of the relevant report.
Correspondence of the Executive Secretariat
Centralised registration and review of incoming correspondence.
Perusal of outgoing correspondence and submission to the Executive Director.
Official timetable and trips of the Executive Director
Preparation and monitoring of the timetable.
Organisation of official trips: dossiers, flights, hotels, etc.
Protocol
External relations(seasonal greetings, letters of thanks, congratulations, condolences, etc).
Visits to the IOC headquarters by high-ranking dignitaries from the member and other countries.
Protocol arrangements for IOC receptions.
Other
Preparation of meetings of the Executive Director with Division Chiefs.
Preparation of general memoranda, other general notifications and/or notices for Division Chiefs.
Drafting of official and private correspondence of the Executive Director.
Provision of private secretarial duties to the Executive Director.
