The echo of the World Olive Day in Greece: resonating harmoniously and vibrantly


The message of the World Olive Day “Choose olives to protect our planet and our health! resonated strongly all over Greece.

Athens, Crete, Agrinio and the Ionian Islands celebrated this day by hosting all week seminars, visits to olive groves and mills, sensory tasting workshops, olive oil food pairing sessions, and interactive activities for children and adults.

Taking the baton from the International Olive Council, the Kalamata Olive Oil Taste Laboratory was selected as the official host of the World Olive Day in Greece.  The official declaration issued by the IOC was read during a press conference that took place on Tuesday 22 November 2016.

On Friday 25 November 2016, members from three sensory panels, the Deutsches Olivenöl Panel, the Panel from the Hellenic Ministry of Development and Competitiveness and the Kalamata Olive Oil Taste Panel, had the opportunity to taste olive oils from Greece and exchange opinions and experiences.

The day continued with a seminar on olive oil topics which was attended by olive oil producers from all around Greece, university students and consumers.

Quoting from the official declaration issued by the IOC:

The olive tree, with its roots in the Mediterranean, is a universal symbol of peace and harmony. It has now spread to the five continents and contributes to sustainable economic and social development and the preservation of natural resources in many countries.
